About this service

ADHD in adults is widely underdiagnosed

Adult ADHD is a recognised neurodevelopmental condition affecting concentration, impulse control, organisation, and emotional regulation. Many adults have lived with undiagnosed ADHD for years, often developing coping strategies that mask the underlying condition.

NHS waiting lists for adult ADHD assessment in Wales currently run to several years in many areas. A private assessment with our qualified Independent Prescriber allows you to be seen quickly, receive a formal diagnosis where appropriate, and begin a structured treatment plan without the wait.

Where medication is appropriate, our 12-week titration programme is structured to find the right medication and dose for you — with a full clinical summary and shared-care request to your GP so that ongoing prescribing can be supported on the NHS.

The Process

How it works

From first contact to shared-care handover — a clear, supported pathway managed entirely at Creigiau Pharmacy.

01

Initial enquiry

Contact us to register your interest. We'll send you a pre-assessment questionnaire to complete before your appointment — this allows us to review your background in advance.

02

90-minute assessment

Your Independent Prescriber will conduct a comprehensive ADHD assessment using standardised rating scales, a detailed history, and risk assessment. If ADHD is confirmed, a management plan is agreed.

03

Medication titration

If medication is appropriate, we begin a structured 12-week titration programme. Three 30-minute follow-up consultations are included to monitor your response and optimise your dose.

04

Shared-care handover

At the end of titration, we issue a full clinical summary and shared-care request to your GP so that your prescription can be maintained on the NHS going forward.

Why Creigiau Pharmacy

Clinical expertise without the wait

All assessments and prescribing are carried out by Gareth Thomas, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber. You won't be passed between clinicians or assessed by someone who doesn't know your background.

We use validated, standardised rating scales throughout the assessment process — the same clinical tools used in NHS settings — to ensure your assessment is thorough, defensible, and accepted by your GP for shared-care purposes.

Our package is designed to take you from assessment to stable medication and GP handover in a single supported programme. We don't leave patients to navigate the system alone — we handle the shared-care paperwork with you.

Common questions

Who is this service for?

This service is for adults (18+) who suspect they may have ADHD and want a private assessment rather than waiting for an NHS referral. It is also suitable for adults with a previous ADHD diagnosis who need support with titration or ongoing management.

Why go private for an ADHD assessment?

NHS waiting lists for adult ADHD assessments in Wales can be several years long. A private assessment with a qualified Independent Prescriber means you can be seen quickly, receive a diagnosis if appropriate, and begin treatment without an extended wait.

What happens at the 90-minute assessment?

Your pharmacist prescriber will take a detailed personal and medical history, administer validated rating scales such as the Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS) and DIVA, carry out a risk assessment, and — where appropriate — provide a clinical diagnosis and personalised treatment plan.

Is medication always prescribed?

No. Medication is only prescribed where it is clinically appropriate following a full assessment. We may recommend other strategies alongside or instead of medication, and will always discuss options with you before any prescribing decision is made.

What if I need longer to stabilise on medication?

Some patients take longer to find the right medication and dose. If you need additional support beyond the 12-week titration package, we offer extended titration blocks at £200 per additional 4-week period.

What is shared care and will my GP accept it?

Shared care means your GP takes over prescribing your ADHD medication on the NHS once you are stable on a dose, based on the clinical summary we provide. GP acceptance of shared care varies. We will support you through this process and provide all the documentation your GP needs.

What happens after titration is complete?

Once titrated and stable, we recommend an annual review (30 minutes, £180) to monitor your progress and ensure your management plan remains appropriate. This is in line with standard ADHD clinic annual review costs.

Does the package price include medication?

No. The £825 package covers all consultations, assessment, and documentation. The cost of ADHD medication is separate and will depend on the medication prescribed and your dose.
